To: All people of the world
Congress of the United States
Senate of the United States
President of the United States
We the undersigned come together before you to request that each of these governing bodies take all necessary action to bring about a Federal Holiday for Native American Elected Leaders, To include Congressional hearings on the racial exclusion of Native Americans in movies, television, sports advertising, music companies, etc.
With the special government to government relationship between the Indian Government of America and the Federal Government it is fitting for the Federal Government to enact this holiday, and conduct Congressional hearings.
Indian governments and the people they represent are requesting that the federal government bring about a National Holiday for Native Americans to be celebrated by all citizens of America and people around the world.
This holiday would pay tribute to Indian Tribal Leaders to include Alaskan Leaders and Hawaiian Leaders. This holiday would also pay tribute to those that endured the world's longest holocaust and most costly in human lives.
It is further stated that no Indian Government nor its people find reason to celebrate and pay for Columbus Day. Seventeen states do not recognize Columbus Day. The state of South Dakota has changed Columbus day to Native American Day.
Therefore be it resolved that the Federal Government should reevaluate Columbus Day by moving it back to its original day the second Wednesday of October and not be a tax paid holiday as is St. Patrick's Day and Octoberfest, and make the second Monday of October a Federal holiday for Native Americans.
The polls we conducted across the country show that the vast majority of Americans prefer changing Columbus Day as to creating a whole new holiday.
It is inappropriate for Indian children and children of America to celebrate Columbus discovering a nation of people and not having a holiday paying tribute to the people of those nations.
Sincerely,
Senate of the United States
President of the United States

I currently found this petition while trying to start on of mine for the same reason. I posted status comments about this for acouple weeks and got a overwhelming feedback from my friends on myspace and the people I talked to about this. Thanks to everyone sent me comments back, I hope each and everone of you will now go and sign this petition and tell your friends to do the same. I believe the time is overdue for this holiday after all the hardships the Native Americans have had to deal with over the many years since American was first set foot on by Christopher Columbus. If you are interested here is the link to go http://www.PetitionOnline.com/indian/petition.html
Thank you

10 of 12MoreI am part Cherokee myself, but I still find myself wondering why does every other race hit on the white man just because they did precisely what any race would have done given the chance? It has always seemed strange to me, however, that the white man would free the black man while placing the red man on reservations. In fact, the red man and white man are literally cousins as both are descended from Isaac and Rebekah. (Genesis 25:20-34) In any case, native Indians were not the first peoples to inhabit America. Research "Red-haired Giants in America" on your computer. Fortunately, we are all children of God the Father. Peace, sister. :)
We Native American deserve much! Pilamaya Sasha this is old 2010 good to know you took a stand!
WOW this is a must ....x mum told me the history i want to be able to celebrate with my kids too xx
Yes is about time that the Federal government recognize the Native Americans, after all this is their land and it was taken from them.
I am Maori, from Aotearoa-Land of the long white cloud-New Zealand. We have a national day here called Waitangi Day (pronounced Wy Tonguey) celebrated each year on Feb 6th (coincidentally Bob Marleys b/day yee aaah luv Bob) to commemorate the signing of a treaty between Maori and Pakeha(white british invaders) which was written to unify our peoples and grant Maori sovereign rights over their lands but of course the greedy white man saw this only as an oppurtunity to interpret said treaty to meet their own selfish needs and wants forsaking any rights we Maori had and stole a large portion of our lands. I totally support any type of Indigenous day of recognition as long as it brings the people together and isn't a day of separatism. Healing of past failures has to begin somewhere and a collaborative effort from indigenous peoples and the progeny of those early settlers is to my mind one way of beginning the transition into a truly unified nation. Good luck to us all as it is a "long and winding road",
This is a well-founded petition. Thanks for sharing!
Hello! im send letter for you inbox.please,reading.
October 12 is the day to celebrate Christopher Columbus' arrival in the Americas. While it is clear that the Native Americans crossed the Siberian land bridge long before Columbus, it is not clear whether the indigenous peoples who did so were more like the Inuit or the inhabitants of Tierra del Fuego. To call people like Geronimo and Sitting Bull the Founding Fathers is nonsense.
In South America, October 12 is called La Dia de la Raza - the Day of the Race; this is the day when Spaniards and Indios became one.
I suggest that we eliminate the Monday holiday (in fact, I would favor ending all "Monday holidays") called "Columbus Day" and rename October 12 The Day of the Americas, to honor all the 'Children of Columbus' and all the indigenous people of this great land between the oceans.
Hi Sasha: While I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment.... it's a little too ambitious to expect that the Congress of the U.S. can mandate anything for the rest of the world. However, I certainly do support replacing Columbus Day with "Native American Day."
I have a Reverbnation site at the following link. ........http://www.reverbnation.com/hardtwistmusicsongwriter#;........
I am currently working on a ten song project called "The Reluctant Warrior Project." The final three songs (of twelve) songs on the Reverbnation player are all part of that project. The three songs there are "Bright Comanche Moon", "Reluctant Warriors" and "Crimson Desert - The Legend of Cochise." The general theme is about Native American war chiefs who preferred peace, but were forced to war to defend their way of life.
Other songs written, but not finalized are "Tecumseh's Dream," "Captain Jack - The Last of the Renegades", "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee," "Geronimo Had to Choose", "Cheyenne Autumn - Dull Knife's Song," and "Thunder Rolling Down the Mountain - The Flight of the Nez Perce." I would love to do a song on Crazy Horse... but he is a real engima... and not enough is known about him to (as yet) put together even a song idea.
My most current project scheduled to be done by the end of the week and posted to Reverbnation is "The Trail of Tears - The Illegal, Immoral, Genocidally Motivated Forced Relocation of the Cherokee Nation."
If you and this cause were to find any use for any of those songs, just let me know, and you would be free to use them.
If you would like an advance listen to any of the unfinished songs before they are finished, let me know.
....
..Sasha, this is something i hold dear and near to my heart. Thank you for your concern and together we can be strong for our Native Americans. These are proud and spiritual people and more people should follow there lead! thanx! Respectfully,........Roxanne AKA STRONG HEART..
